How to play long par 3 holes

Filed under: The Golf Helper Blog — Unchel @ 3:46 am

Hello again

This week I will let you know how to master long par 3 holes (200 yards or more)

The key to playing the long par 3 holes is to determine whether you can hit the green 7 out of 10 times from the tee.

When you encounter a long par 3 (200 yards or longer), and it is bunkered, then this is the best strategy to use.

Ask yourself

Can I can hit the green 7 out of 10 times from the tee?

If the answer is no then do not take a club that will reach the the bunkers.

The hole is only 220yards or so long, and if you are more likely to hit the green in two shots, hit the ball with a 5 or a 6 iron 150-160 yards off the tee coming up short of the bunkers. This will normally give you a wider fairway to aim at and an easy 40-50 yard pitch shot to the green. This is easier than a 30yard bunker shot, or indeed any shot from a bunker, particularly if you are on the thin side of the green

The best round you will play is when you do not hit the ball into a bunker. The idea is to stay out of the bunkers, not play silly shots where the penalty is hitting the ball in a bunker 40 yards from the green.
For the player who can reach the green always aim to miss the green on the fat side, never on the thin side.
Good golfing

PS Dont forget to check out the Simple Golf Swing, its what helped me get to a handicap of 9.6

PPS There’s a new way of learning golf!

Bobby Eldridge at Purepoint Golf has spent the last few months designing a program that allows him to coach students personally online. He’s looking for a few “testers” for the program. It’s a really great program, and it’s revolutionary for golf instruction. The first month is only $1.00 so you can make an informed decision to see if the program is right for you.

Have you got your sand Bucket?

Filed under: The Golf Helper Blog — Unchel @ 1:23 pm

I got this great friend, Gabby.

Gabby isn’t her real name, but a name given to her by my Mum and Dad some years ago when they thought they’d sent here a Xmas card addressed incorecctly to “Gabrielle” instead of her real name. Mum and Dad didn’t get the name wrong, but the name stuck, so Gabby she is!

Anyway, Gabby loves golf and is a member at the same club that I play at. She’s fanatical about golf and has tried her best to get better, which she is doing.

I bought Gabby an Electric Golf Buggy as a special present for her last year. I bought the buggy on eBAY and picked it up and proudly presented it to her. She loved it!

The only problem with the buggy was that it didn’t have a great spot to carry a sand bucket. You know, the thing that hangs from your buggy that holds your bannana peel.
Anyway Gabby, being diligent about the local rules and course etiquette, managed to hang the sand bucket somewhere off the buggy. Well what a mistake!

If only her husband had helped by putting a sand bucket holder on her buggy before it was too late.
“Too late for what?”

Well too late for the sand bucket to fall off the buggy and then for Gabby to trip over it it break her ankle.

  • 9 weeks of no playing golf
  • 9 weeks of seeing her husband trot off to golf twice a week
  • 9 weeks that seemed like an eternity
  • A blood clot and thrombosis didn’t exactly make things better

And the the moral of the story is

Never marry someone that can’t make a sand bucket holder for you!

A happy ending to the story
Luckily Gabby’s husband made up for his wayward behaviour and corrected the situation

How to turn water to wine or, as I did, $50 into $300

Filed under: The Golf Helper Blog — Unchel @ 1:41 pm

I was given a $50 for a voucher at the local golf shop for my birthday. Great!

Well, I was thinking that I should get a new golf glove. My current one was a little tattered, and had a hole in the thumb and with $50 I could get at least 2 gloves.
I got to “The House of Golf” and went straight to the glove section.

Well I almost straight to the glove section, but as luck would have it, half way there I saw a sleeveless jacket, fully reversable and shower proof for only $75. Well I had $50, so I would only have to pay $25 and the jacket was mine!
I tried a couple on, and when I got the right size I went to the mirror to check it out. Not bad, not bad at all. I should get it. Hang on a second , what is that I see in the corner of the mirror. A pair of Puma golf shoes. They look comfortable, very comfortable. How much are they anyway? Only $225.
“Can you hold this for me please Mr Sales Assistant?” , I said handing over my reversable, shower proof jacket and reaching for a box of Puma golf shoes.
So I tried them on. They were very very comfotable.
“They really suit you!” said Mr Sales Assistant
“Dou you thinks so, oh well I’ll take them I think” I replied

It took only 10 minutes in that shop to convert a $50 voucher into $300 worth of golf stuff, but I love my jacaket and my shoes are still comfortable!

These days I don’t wear a glove and I still off a handicap of 11 and I love my jacket and shoes

My Knee Hurts

Filed under: The Golf Helper Blog — Unchel @ 11:07 am

I get quite a bit of pain, mainly in my knee, although somtimes from just listening to my friend and best golfing pal -Divdov
Divdov is much like me only very very different. He’s like me in that he’s human, or mainly human and has a great sense of humor.
Divdov and I have great battles on the golf course.

Anyway back to my knee, cause this story is all about me and not really about Divdov.
(I’ll tell you about Divdov later, much later.)

Last year I had knee surgery, an arthroscope and the prognosis wasn’t good. My knee was, hmmm, only half there, or at least the cartlidge was only half there. I had noticed that it was getting increasingly difficult to get around the full 18.

Then I discoverd “Glucosamine”
Glucosamine lines the shelves at the drug store and is the latest cure all for arthritic pain, so I tried it and, it works!

I have forgotten to take it for the past couple of weeks, (this is where theDivdov bit comes in) and Divdov didn’t mention a word, but I knew he was ecstatic about beating me, and once off the stick (nearly unheard of!)

Anyway this Saturday I am in a 4BBB and my partner is Divdov. Guess what?
Well Divvie has taken a sudden interest in my knee and phones me to make sure I am taking my Glucosamine, so as I said
No Pain- No Gain

Thanks Divvie, I will take my Glucosamine and we should thrash those imposters!

PS You can stop phoning my wife now, I get the message okay. Back
