My first game of golf as I remember was at a pitch and putt in Sheffield with my Uncle Arthur at Graves Park I think
Uncle Art was a funny man, a successful man and a great golfer.  He played off scratch or there abouts and had the honour of playing with a young Tony Jacklin, I think it was a match play competition at Hillsborough in Sheffield England but I may be wrong.  Over the years, I played a few games with Uncle Art on "Real" golf courses, and was always amazed that his swing was not anything like copybook, but he always got down in a par!

Even though I didn't get hooked immediately as I was far too busy pusuing a professional soccer career, I was certainly very interested in the game, and even learnt to caddy at the local club in Watford, which paid me extra pocket monet to spend on my soccer career.

When my family returned to Australia, which incedently put a big dent in my soccer career aspirations, I played socially from time to time with my mates, and at one point even bought a set of clubs.  I was never much good, and was happy enough to play once or twice a year, hacking around a course and then having a well deserved beer, and talking up a great game of ifs and buts.

It was not until much later, after my soccer dreams were dashed at the age of 37, that I re-discovered golf,  when as luck would have it, I was working away from home with a group of other computer professionals developing software .  To fill in time and to help bond the project team, we all decided to take up golf, and in a few short weeks I was hooked.

Many years on from that I still love golf, have accepted that I will probably never play for Watford, and as far as golf goes, still striving to get the elusive single figure handicap.

I have realised that I will probably never get my PGA card, but you never know!
